Historical Sky Snapshots

Designing a simple archive of periodic sky images to track conditions over time and connect visual data with sensor telemetry.

This note is marked as planned. It is part of the public project log, but it may evolve as the observatory changes.

From single image to visual history

A single sky image is useful as a test. A sequence of sky images becomes a source of information.

The idea is to capture periodic snapshots and store them in a simple historical archive, so the observatory can show not only what the sensors measured, but also what the sky looked like.

Initial design

The first version should stay intentionally simple: a scheduled capture, a timestamped filename and a browsable archive.

This avoids over-engineering and creates an immediate visual record that can later support cloud classification, timelapse generation and comparison with light measurements.

Expected value

Historical images can help validate telemetry. If the lux sensor reports a sudden drop, the image can explain whether it was caused by clouds, shade, rain or darkness.

This is where the observatory starts becoming more than a dashboard: it becomes a small evidence-based observation system.
